Now part of the Verve Music Group, Impulse is known for their great reissues of legendary 1960s recordings such as The Complete 1961 John Coltrane Village Vanguard Recordings.
Independent Labels
A long list of labels. The criterion is that some of the releases on the label must feature musicians involved in European free improvisation.

Jardis Records
A German label specializing in jazz Guitar recordings. Artists include Steve Rochinski, Louis Stewart, and The European Jazz Guitar Orchestra.

Jazz Crusade Records

Listing of traditional jazz recordings available from this label, run by producer Bill Bissonnette. Offerings include

Jazz Focus Records

A smaller label founded in 1993, and based in Calgary, Canada. They've released what I believe to be one of the only jazz bassoon records ever!
Jazzheads Records
Featuring debut recordings from jazz artists, Jazzheads "is an independent record label for original, improvised jazz music," and the giver of the Jazzheads Jazzsite of the Week award.

Jazzology
The George H. Buck, Jr. Jazz Foundation Family of Record Labels. Includes Jazzology (Chicago sStyle), American Music (New Orleans style, Black Swan (Reissue of Paramount blues & jazz), and others.
Justin Time Records
This nice site gets right down to business. A list of artists plus sound clips for names such as Abercrombie, DiMeola, Benghazi Sax Quartet, Diana Krall.
The Knitting Factory
This New York City club is, as John Tennyson put it, "a good hang." And I applaud them for not being afraid to promote experimental jazz.
Label M
Producer Joel Dorn's new labelis poised to become a hot property, with many nice releases slated for Winter/Spring 2001. The label will release many recordings made live at the Left Bank Jazz Society's Sunday concert series.
Love Slave Records
Love Slave is a new label whose mantra is "the home of self-produced creative music." Their first three releases have all been very exciting, high quality open creative jazz.
MA Recordings
"Established in Japan in the spring of 1988, the MA label continues to issue provocatively creative musical statements in strictly acoustic settings." Artists include Milcho Leviev , Dave Holland, Sheila Jordan , Harvie Swartz, Michael Cain, Ralph Alessi, Peter Epstein, and the Metamorphosis Jazz Sextet.
Mack Ave. Records
Headed by Crusaders drummer and founder Stix Hooper, Mack Avenue's artist roster includes Eugene Maslov, Terry Gibbs, and a project called "the Legacy Lives On," which features new recordings of jazz's greatest living icons and innovators
Malandro Records

Brazilian jazz, bossa, samba, and choro. Stuff you won't find elsewhere if you're outside of Brazil!
MJA Records

MJA stands for master jazz artist, and with musicians like Fred Lipsius (Former Blood Sweat & Tears great), and David Alan Gross, plus a cast of awesome sidemen, they have a right to use the name.
Monkeyville Records
The Flying Monkey Orchestra is Rob Mounsey's baby, the New York-based producer and arranger. Mango Theory and Back in the Pool have an extremely nice feel to them.
Mythology Records
Artists for this new cutting edge label include Lan Xang, Dave Binney, and Edward Simon.
Narada Jazz Smooth label that's home to Jeff Golub, Flora Purim, Down to the Bone, and distributes the Real World music imprint.
Okka Disk
Artists on this progressive label include Ken Vandermark, Peter Brotzmann, Hamid Drake, Fred Anderson, and Joe McPhee.
Papa Bear Records
Bassist and Chapman Stickster Tony Levin's Label, putting out occasional but superb recordings.
