and Host of Miles Ahead (1240 AM Chicago)

“A very good saxophonist he is… melodically and rhythmically engaging lines… expressiveness and melodic sensitivity.” - Jazz Times Magazine

About our Performer

Mark O’Connor’s 2003 Blujazz release, “Mirage,” spent eight weeks on the national jazz charts, with responses such as “Excellent!” from Jim Wilke of the nationally syndicated “Jazz After Hours,” and “A great new CD, it does not contain a bad cut. Already one of my favorites for 2003!” from Bill White at WWOZ in New Orleans.

Since moving to Chicago in 1996, Mark O'Connor, the saxophonist, has amassed an impressive musical resume, sharing stages with notable local and national talent including Chris Brubeck, Orbert Davis, Larry Gray, Rufus Reid, Arturo Sandoval, Kelly Sill, Robert Shy, Steve Turre, Paul Wertico, and James Williams. Given O’Connor’s ambitious approach to the bandstand, association with players of this caliber comes as no surprise; recording as a leader simply represents a culmination of such effort. His work ethic pays off beautifully on Mirage, invoking creative musicianship that is fearless, melodic, and constantly in the moment.
