WINDOWS MP3 PLAYERS

Linux is flexible and stable, and though not the perfect platform for audio, is widely supported by freelance programmers and hackers who have provided a number of options for Linux users who wish to have access to MP3. Since the Linux program is mostly command-line based, so are many of the most successful players, though GUI front-ends exist for many. If you are using or experimenting with Linux, these MP3 players will be just your cup of tea.

    PLAYERS/JUKEBOXES
These allow users of Windows to play MP3 files on their computer as well as ripping and encoding them. Musicmatch, RealOne Player, and Windows Media Player will also allow you to burn your music to CD.
  • Recommended! Musicmatch Jukebox A real workhorse program that will play, rip, burn, and organize all your MP3s and other audio files. Works well with almost any software and supports lots of file formats. Upgrade for $29.99 (lifetime) to get faster recording and CD burning, custom printing features, enhanced MP3 equalizer, money-back guarantee
  • Recommended! Windows Media Player Microsoft's Windows Media Player has come a long way since its initial introduction. It needs additional software, such as Intervideo MP3 or DVD in order to encode MP3s from CD or play DVDs, otherwise files are saved s WMA files.
  • Recommended!WinAmp The one, the only, the original. WinAmp has been around longer than any of these players, so it has the most users, the most skins, and is still one of the best. And it's free.
  • RealOne Player (formerly Real Player) Formerly two seperate programs, Real Player and Real Jukebox, now combined into one powerhouse application. Saves files as RA (Real Audio) or MP3.

RIPPERS
These convert CDs to WAV files. Then you encode the WAV files to MP3 files. With the powerhouse products above, which do both in one easy step, there's not much reason to use seperate rippers and encoders, but some folks still like to do it that way.

  • CD-DA X-TRACTOR A CD ripper for 32-bit Windows platforms. It features intelligent jitter correction, internet CDDB support, on-the-fly MP3 encoding via BladeEnc or Lame_enc, and of course, it's 100% free!
  • CDex CDex is a utility of extraction (ripping) any audio files from an audio CD. The files can be ripped in either the plain WAV format or to a compressed file format (CDex supports many encoders). In addition, it has many additional options to convert between several audio file formats.
  • CD 'GO! An MP3 Suite, consisting of a Digital Audio Extractor, an Audio Compressor and a File Tagger.
