JAZZ HISTORY

Brief History of Jazz is Jazzitude's brief summary of various stylistic periods in the music's history and the major musicians associated with each style. It is not designed to be comprehensive, but to provide readers with information on where each style and its practitioners fit in jazz history. Dividing music like jazz up by style is necessarily imperfect, but it provides a way of getting a handle on the music.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE JAZZ STORY: USA

This fantastic poster traces the history of jazz in the United States from its roots in blues and early music of New Orleans all the way up to current stars like Cassandra Wilson, Joshua Redman, and Diana Krall. In between are the names of some 900 musicians and bands, along with birth & death dates and more than 160 photos. While not purporting to be a comprehensive historic documentation of the development of jazz, it certainly provides hours of entertainment, and can be used as a quick reference and to settle arguments.
